Ratify To formally approve of a plan or an agreement
Electorial College The group established by the constitution to elect the president and vice president
Compromise An agreement in which both sides in a dispute agree to give up a little of what they want to make an agreement
Weaknesses of the Articles of the Confederation Had to ask for money and troops, could not tax states so they could not regulate money, cannot enforce disputes
Achievements of the Articles of Confederation Could create their own postal service, create and army and navy, make war and peace, print money
Land Ordinance of 1785 The western lands were divided into 6 square miles called townships

Federalists People who supported the Constitution
Anti-Federalists People who did not support the constitution
What is the 3/5 compromise When they decided that slaves were to be counted as 3/5 of a person so they were part property and person
What is the fugitive slave clause? Escaped slaves have to be returned to their owners even if they were caught in a free state
What was the greatest concern of the anti-federalists? Congress, they feared, would ruin the country with taxes. The president had enough power to rule like a king.
What is a federal system of government? When a strong national government shared power with the states
