Absolute Location The exact place on on a map
Relative Location Where one place is compared to another place
Latitude Imaginary lines that run from east to west
Parallels Lines of Latitude
Longitude Imaginary Lines that run North to South
Meridians Lines of Longitude
Equator Parallel of latitude that runs through the middle of the earth at 0°
Tropic of Cancer Parallel of latitude that is at 23.5° North
Tropic of Capricorn Parallel of latitude that is at 23.5° South
Arctic Circle Parallel of latitude that is at 66.5° North
Antarctic Circle Parallel of latitude that is at 66.5° South
Prime Meridian Meridian of Longitude that is a 0° and runs through Greenich England
International Date Line Meridian of Longitude that runs through the Pacific Ocean opposite the Prime Meridian
Compass Rose The symbol that shows direction
Map Scale The graph that shows how distances are represented
Distortion Errors in size and shape when a sphere globe is put on a flat map
