| keelboat | River boat with a shallow draught and a keel but no sails; used to carry freight; moved by rowing or punting or towing |
| snag | a tree stump or branch stuck in a river that can damage a boat |
| upstream | toward the source or beginning of a river or stream; against the current of a river |
| boiler | a tank for making steam to heat buildings and to run engines |
| sandbar | a ridge of sand in a river |
| steamboat | a boat, expecially a river boat, moved by a steam engine |
| warp | to bend out of shape |
| hull | the frame of a boat or ship; the outer coat of a nut, fruit, or seed |
