What was the Albany Plan of Union and why did it fail? 1. United Colonial government 2. Failed because none of the colonial assemblys approved it. They viewed themselves as individual colonies and feared uniting would forfeit their power.
Who was General Edward Braddock? 1. Commander of the British forces 2. His mission was to drive the French from the Ohio River Valley.
Braddocks Epic Failures 1. Moved troops too slow, stopping to build bridges and roads. 2. Fought in a dated Napoleon style while the French used guerrilla warfare.
The Seven Year's War 1. after entering an alliance with (Prussia) Germany. Britain declared war on France in 1756. 2. Prussia fought the French in Europe while the British fought the French in the Americas. The French began raiding colonies.
William Pitt Led British forces in American when Braddock died. Told colonists they did not have to pay for war supplies, Britain would pay. Wanted to take over Western Territories and also French Canada.
Jeffrey Amherst and James Wolfe Sent by Pitt to command British Troops in America.
The battle of Quebec (Part 1) Quebec was the capital of New France and located on top of a cliff overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Many viewed it as impossible to attack.
The Battle of Quebec (Part 2) In 1759, British scouts found an unguarded back entrance and the British used this weakness to attack at night defeating the French.
The Treaty of Paris (1763) Forced France to give up Canada and most of its lands east of the Mississippi River to Britain.
The Treaty of Paris (1763) Spain, France's ally was forced to give up Florida and was given French lands west of the Mississippi. This marked the end of French power in America.
What happened to Native Americans? Losing the war lost the natives their allys and trading partners. British settlers began moving into their lands.
What happened to native Americans? Chief Pontiac, led a rebellion in the Spring of 1763 against the British and killed settlers along the border. The British defeated the rebellion.
Proclamation of 1763 To prevent former fighting, Britain declared that there would be no settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. This greatly angered the colonists.
