Parts of a cell

Study the function and structure of each organelle

QuestionAnswer
Cell Wall Provides strength and support for the plant cell ONLY
Cell Membrane Controls the movement of things in and out of the cell
Cytoplasm Holds all of the other organelles in place
Chloroplasts Makes food during photosynthesis for the plant cell ONLY
Endoplasmic Reticulum (define the difference between smooth and rough) makes lipids or fats that break down chemicals that can damage the cell. Then it ships it off to places inside the cell. It's like the cell's highway system. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulums have ribosomes on it, while smooth endoplasmic reticulums don't.
Mitochondria It burns sugar to make energy. Then it transfers the energy to the ATP. Then the cell uses ATP to do work
Golgi Bodies Assembles, releases, and stores chemicals. It also ships proteins out of the cell.
Nucleus Controls all the organelle's activities inside the cell
DNA They act like instructions to make the cell's proteins. Found inside the nucleus.
Vacuoles (define how many in each type of cell) Stores nutrients, water, and waste. Plnt cells have one big one, while animal cells have many smaller ones
