Who was Alexis de Tocqueville? He said that americans had low morals, less sophisticated and were less refined. He talked down on them.
What did america base there colleges on? Practicality
How did England pit the America Colonies against other parts of their English Empire? The English made us depend on them.
How did the arts shape America? They showed practicality and were very dramatic.
What was the impact of Benjamin Franklin's literature? Ben Franklin wrote rags to riches autobiography, 13 virtues and Poor Richard's Almanac.
How did the non-Indians(colonists) and the Indians learn from one another(reciprocal acculturation)? The non-Indians adopted indianmaterial culture, smoked tobacco, started growing and eating the same things as the Indians.
What were the broadsides? Early form of newspapers
What methods did Edwards and Whitfield use in their sermons to get people saved in the 1st Great Awakening? They used FIRE AND BRIMSTONE preachings. It is where the church members were told the MUST repent or else they would go to hell.
How did slave traders isolate Africans further when captured and what was the effect of this? Slave traders mixed slaves by tribes and language with others so the group would not have much in common except skin color.
How did blacks create a unique African American folk culture? They combined African customs with Anglo- and Celtic- American traits.
How did Washington, and Jefferson handle their slaves and how did they envisionthe future of slavery? Washington would free his slaves after his death. Jefferson felt slavery was a "necessary evil." They knew it was going to end but never spoke of it in hope it would go away.
What was the impact of the War of Austrian Secession(War of Jenkins Ear) in the colonies? The ban of rum was overridden. Slavery's ban was repealed.

How was Goergia ran? Limited on the number of acres people could own, welcomed religious refugees, banned rum and slavery.
