Battle of Vicksburg (on the Mississippi) Was won by the union,taking control of the miss. river gave the union control of the miss. river & split the south in half.
Battle of Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) Was the turning point of the war. the Union (North) began to win.
Robert E. Lee Graduate of West Point Military Academy. Commanded in the Mexican War, commanding General of the Confederate Army, surrendered to U.S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia.
Ulysses S. Grant Commanding General of the Union Army. 18th President of the U.S. (he's on the $20.00 bill)
Abraham Lincoln 16th president of the U.S. president of the U.S. during the Civil War.
Jefferson Davis President of the Confederate States of America.
Gettysburg Adress President Lincoln gave this famous speech to commemorate the Union soldiers that had died at that battle.
Lincoln & Andrew Jackson They both wanted to uphold the federal government.
Fugitive Slave Act It allowed for run away slaves to be captured & returned to the south & slavery.
North & South north had factories & the south had agriculture (farming)

North Had factories, many railroads, roads, seaports, & a smal navy
South Had agriculture, few railroads, roads, seaports, & a large navy
Dred Scott Decision by the supreme court said once a slave, always a slave. Allowed slavery into territories-made the North mad.
Abolitionist Person who wanted to abolition slavery completly.
Uncle Tom's Cabin A book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe about thwe topic of slavery.
