The South Cotton Kingdom

QuestionAnswer
Cotton was vital to the economy of the South.
The Deep South was considered Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
The cotton gin produced cotton so quickly, that farmers needed more slave labor.
Farmers relied on slaves to pick their cotton.
The Upper South was used to sell slaves and transport them.
Southern farmers were not interested in industry/factories because they made so much off of cotton profits.
Slaves had no money to buy manufactured goods.
Southern cities grew slower than cities in the North because there were not as many factory workers.
