How did the U.S. acquire Florida? From buying it for 5 million dollers.
What happen in Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Peru in the early 1800's? They rebelled and broke away from Spain.
Who was the Monroe Doctrine addressed to? Europe
What was the message of the Monroe Doctrine? Stay out of the U.S. territory and Western Hemisphere.
Who received the most popular votes and electoral votes in the election of 1824? Andrew Jackson
Who was elected as our 6th president in the election of 1824? John Quincy Adams
What was the "Corrupt Bargain"? When Henry Clay encourged hos friends to vote but not the marjority votes.
What was an aristocrat? The upper class.
WHy was John Quincy Adams not a very effective president? He was an aristocrat and he was out of touch
What to political parties formed after 1828? Democrat and Whigs
Why was the inauguration party of Andrew Jackson imortant? (what did it show?) Because he supported the common people
What was the Spoils System? Giving govermont jobs to political supporters.
What was Jackson's Kitchen Cabinet? A group of Unofficial advisers.
Why did Andrew Jackson hate the bank of the United Sates? He saw it as only benefiting the wealthiest americans.
What did Jackson do more times than all six previous presidents combined? He vetoed 12 bills.
WHy did Jackson's enemies call him "King Andrew"? They thought he was acting like a dictator.
What was nullafication? Was the idea that any state could cancel out a law passed by the national Goverment that did not support.
Who was Jackson's vice president and promoted the idea of nullification? John C. Calhoun
What does it mean to secede? To withdraw from the union
What was the Indian removal Act of 1830? All of the Native American people had to move west of the Mississippi river and they moved them out of Oklahoma
What was the trail of tears? It was the name for the trail that they were forced to walk
What was universal manhood sufferage? Any white man over 21 could vote.
Who became our 8th president, right after Andrew Jackson? Martin VanBeurn
What political party was he from? Democrat
What caused the Panic of 1837 There wasnt enough gold to trade in for paper money.
WHy did William H. Harrison claim he was born in a log cabin when he really wasn't? So he would get more votes and people would think of him as a democrat
What distinction does William Henry Harrison hold in presidential hostory? served the shortest term. (30 days)
What distinction does John Tyler hold as president? He was the First Vice president to take over.
