How did President Roosevelt attempt to "pack" the Supreme Court? Supreme Court had overturned several New Deal programs as being unconstitutional. FDR hope by increasing number of justices from 9 to 15 he would be able to pick judges who were infavor of his New Deal programs.
How did Huey Long feel about Roosevelt's New Deal? He felt that the New Deal did not go far enough to the poor and the economy.
What did the critics of the NEW DEAL have to say? -Many people felt it had gone too far. -Some thought that the New Deal violated the Constitution; -Wealthy Americans & big business leaders opposed New Deal because they felt it overregulated economy & restricted free enterprise

Define: "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steibeck Novel written depicting the 1930's and the Depression and trials and tribulations of one family on their journey from the Dust Bowl of Oklahoma to California to find work
Define: "Brother Can You Spare A Dime?" by E.Y. Harburg One of the best=known American songs of the Great Depression. It questions why men who built the nation find themselves abandoned and in breadlines.
Define: The Bonus March March of of WWI veterans to Washington, D.C. to to lobby Congress to pass legislation for their bonus promised to them in 1945, but due to the Depression and an early authorization, they wanted it long before then.
NEW DEAL PROGRAMS: Know and explain: AAA, CCC, FDIC, SS, TVA, PWA, TVA,PWA, NYA, WPA,FERA, SEC, FWP, FTP AAA:Agricultural Adjustment Act. Administered the farm program. Government would pay the farmers not to raise certain livestock, and not to grow certain crops.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM CCC:Civilian Conservation Corps. Employed single men ages 18-25 for natural resource conservation
NEW DEAL PROGRAM FDIC:Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Guaranteed bank deposits up to $2,500.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM SS:Social Security. Created unemployment system, disability insurance, old-age pension, and child welfare benefits.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM TVA:Tennessee Valley Authority. Built hydroelectric plants and dams aimed at improving seven Southern states and attracting industry to the South.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM PWA:Public Works Administration. Provided employment in construction of airports, parks, schools, and roads.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM NYA:National Youth Administration. Provided job training for young people.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM WPA:Works Progress Administration. Combated unemployment, created jobs throughout the economy.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM FERA:Federal Emergency Relief Agency. Granted federal relief money to state and local governments to be used to help the unemployed.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM SEC:Security and Exchange Commission. An independent agency to regulate the stock market and prevent fraud.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM FWP:Federal Writers' Project. Federally funded project written to support writers during the Great Depression.
NEW DEAL PROGRAM FTP:Federal Theater Project. New Deal project to fund theater and other live artistic performances in the US during the Great Depression.
