Cold War An intense rivalry between two superpowers with diffrent political and economic views, America and the Soviet Union. Post WWII.
What did Allied Leaders decide at Yalta about several European governments? Germany was divided into 4 zones (USSR, US, Great Britain, and France). Eastern Europe was set up with temporary goverments and USSR promised to declare war on Japan within 3 monthes of germanys surrender.
What did the Truman Doctrine result in? to stabilize the Greek government and ease Soviet demand on Turkey. Fight communism world wide.
Waht is Brinkmanship? The willingness to go to war to get the other side to back down.
What is containment? keeping communism from spreading
What is McCarthyism? A time of extreme Anti Communism. Fuled by Joseph McCarthy.
What is NATO? a mutual defense pact with western Europe to aide eachother in the event of an attack. paired with Marshall Plan.
What is Suputnik? the fist artificail satilite to orbit the earth. Made by the soviets. caused america to feel they were technologicaly inferior to Soviet Union.
What is the Iron curtain? Seperates the communist nations of western europe from the west.
What is the Red Scare? the overall fear of communism.
What was the Warsaw Pact? A mutual military alliance between the USSR and its satilitte nations.
What was the main difference in opinion btwn the Us and Soviet Union about Germany at the Postdam Connference. was to work out the Future of germany about their military and politics.
What was the purpose of th Marshall Plan? to rebuild economics of Europe and to prevent the spread of communism.
Who fought in the Korean War? The UN, China, the USSR, The U.S., Canada, France, U.K, Australia and North and South Korea.
Who was the Soviet leader following Stalin? Nakita Khruschev
Who were Ethel and Julius Rosenberg? they were a couple of self proclaimed american comminust, who were acused of being soviet spies. pleaded inocent till they were executed.
Who were the Big Three at Yalta? Stalin (USSR), Roosevelt (US, and Churchill (Great Britain)
When did support for McCarhty begin to fade? When he started to put his trials on T.V.
Why did Truman fire McArthur? because McArthur said that he could do a better job than the presient, and he was being disrespectful.
Why was the Berlin Airlift impotant? because Soviet Union blockaded Berlin so that nothing could come in or out, so America flew in plans full of supplies to the Berliners.
