Sec 9.4 -The War of 1812

The U.S. fought Britain on U.S. soil, in Canada, and at sea.
The U.S. army was not prepared for war.
The U.S. army was poorly trained and lacked leadership.
The War of 1812 started in July on Canadian soil with the Native Americans and the the British troops.
The U.S. was successful with naval battles in the war of 1812.

Dolley Madison was the 1st Lady for the US and saved many valuable government documents and a painting of George Washington when the British burned down the White House during the War of 1812.
Andrew Jackson led a defeat in March of 1814, on the Creek Tribe which forced them to give up most of their land.
Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner after seeing that the flag was still flying after a British attack on Ft. McHenry.
British Leaders deciced the War of 1812 was to costly after the defeat at Plattsburgh.
Britain was not fined for impressment of sailors in the Treaty of Ghent.
The Battle of New Orleans in 1815,was fought and won by the Americans because they did not know the war with Britain was over.
Some Americans were upset because the War of 1812 was fought and wanted to seceed.
Seceed to leave the union or United States
War Hawks wanted a strong National Government.
