QuestionAnswer
What are cardinal directions? The directions on a compass; north, south, east, and west.
What are goods? Things that people make to sell. For instance, people make donuts, cranberry juice, books, submarines, etc.
What is a harbor? A protected place near the shore where the water is deep enough for large ships.
What is a map legend? A key that shows what the symbols on a map stand for.
What is a mill? A place where corn and wheat are ground into flour.
What are natural resources? Something found in nature that people use. Examples are soil, minerals, forests, and water.
What is a scale of miles? A symbol on a map that represents actual distrances.
What are services? Work that people do for other people to earn a living. For instance, fixing a computer is a service. So is being a doctor, nurse or working at a museum.
What is a suburb? A place outside the city with houses, yards, and shopping malls.
What is a symbol? Something that stands for something else.
What is an ancestor? A relative who lived long ago.
What is a cape? A point of land that juts out into a large body of water.
What is a ceramic? Clay material and fired at a high temperature.
What is an endangered species? A species of animal that is in danger of completely disappearing.
What is geography? The study of earth and the people, plants, and animals living on it.
What does graze mean? To feed on grass or in a pasture.
What is an island? Land surrounded by water on all sides.
What is a monadnock? A rocky hill or mountain standing alone.
What is a reservoir? A lake made by people.
What is transportation? Moving from place to place.
What is a valley? Low land between mountains and hills.
What is a port? A place on the water where boats can dock.
What is a textile? Cloth that is woven or knitted.
