How did Great Britain economically control the colonies? Imposed strict control over trade, taxed the colonists after the French and Indian War, and traded raw materials for goods made in Great Britain.
How did Great Britain politically control the colonies? Colonists had to obey British laws, colonial governors where appointed by the king, and a colonial legislature made laws but was monitored by a colonial governor.
Who appointed colonial governors? The king
Why did Great Britain tax colonists? To pay for the French and Indian War and to pay for maintaining troops in the colonies.
Why were the colonists upset with Great Britain? Colonists had no representation in Parliament, colonists resented the power of colonial governors, Great Britain had strict control over colonial legislatures, colonists opposed British taxes, and the Proclamation of 1763.
What was the Proclamation of 1763? Kept colonists from moving west into new territories.
What are the four key philosophies on which the Declaration of Independence is based? People have certain unalienable rights, people establish government to protect those rights, government gets it power from the people, people have a right to change a government that violates those rights.
What unalienable rights are talked about in the Declaration of Independence? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
