Grimes 1st Semester USH Colonial Era to Revolution

French and Indian War Conflict in North America 1754-1763, which was part of a world wide conflict between Great Britain and France.
James Madison Father of the Constitution
Articles of Confederation A document adopted by the Continental Congress in 1777 which when approved in 1781 was the governmental plan for the new U.S.
Stamp Act A 1765 law passed by Parliament requiring all legal and commercial documents to carry an official stamp showing tax has been paid.
Quartering Act A 1765 law passed by Parliament requiring colonists to house and supply British soldiers.
Federalists Those who supported the passing of the Constitution.
Anti-Federalists Those who opposed the passing of the Constitution.
Great Compromise (Connecticut Compromise) The Constitutional Convention's agreement to establish a bicameral (2 house) legislature. One house based on population, one house having equal representation by each state.
Natural Rights Human rights based on universal natural law.
Bill of Rights The first ten amendments of the Constitution added in 1791. (State's Rights)
Albany Plan of Union Benjamin Franklin's plan for the colonies to join togethere to fight the British. (Join or Die)
Mayflower Compact The first official government of the colonies, set forth the idea of self-government.
Alien and Sedition Act Were four bills passed in 1798 setting forth an undeclared naval war with France(Quasi-War)
Three-fifths Compromise Constitutional Convention's agreement to count 3/5 of the states' slaves as population for purposes of representation and taxation.
Treaty of Versailles (Paris) Confirmed the independence of America and set its boundaries.
