Social Darwinism Based on the theory of survival of the fitist. The best people will prosper. This theory provided the rich a reason to get richer.
Collective Bargaining Group negotiations to reach written agreements betwenn workers and employers. This would help decrease strikes and make working conditions better.
George Pullman Manufactured sleepers and railroad cars . This made traveling more easy and made people want to travel by trains.
Trusts A method to consolidate competing companies. They were not legal matters so many used this to their adavantage and they monopolized their industry .
Urban Working Working conditions were hazordous. Workers got low pay and worked long hours. Women and children worked also.
Scabs Hired by company owners to keep a company going while a strike was happening. They prevented an early collaspe of a company.
Thomas Edison Invented the electricity. This made home life and business life much easy .
Christopher Sholes Invented the typewritter. Made communication much easier.
Alexander Grahm Bell Invented the telephone. Paved the way for world wide communication.
Robber Barons They were people who justifyed their money by saying they donated to charities. They controlled the industry they were in. Hated by others.
John D Rockefeller He monopolized the oil industry and made prices high.
Andrew Carnegie Monopolized the steel industry. High prices .
Monopoly Gain complete control over industry. Made it impossible for others to have a company.
Vertical Integration Buy out suppplies. This ensures the best quality products.
Edwin Drake Used steam engine to drill for oil. Made oil much easier to get.
Munn vs. Illinois An 1877 case in which the supreme court upheld states legislation of railroads for the benefit of farmers and consumers right of government for public industry.
Samuel Gompers Leader who helped form the AFL. Tried to help people in the work force .
Eugene Debs Leader of the first major industrial union.
Mother Jones Lead strikes for the women and kids. Influenced child labor laws.
Labor Unions Not big effect. They were not that sucessfull
Major Industrialists John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie
were they(major industrialists) captains of the industy or robber barrons ? They were robber barrons because they gained so much wealth but justified it by saying they donated some to charity.
Industrial Consolidation merging of smaller businesses together .Lead to monopolies.
Samuel Morse Developed the morse code .Used in the army.
Describe in detail what technological advances created the industrial boom in america? new forms of technology made it possible to get the inportant resurces needed.it made getting them more easier than before. it costed less money and was more effficent. people were also consuming more goods
