Why did Great Britain control the colonies and what steps did they take to do it? Desired to be a world power, led to the French and Indian War, and Great Britain imposed taxes to pay for the French and Indian War.
Why did Great Britain tax the colonists? To help finance the French and Indian War and to help finance the maintenance of British troops in the colonies.
Why were the colonists upset? They had no representation in Parliament, resented the power of the colonial governors, Britain had strict control over colonial legislatures, they opposed the taxes. and upset over the Proclamation of 1763.
What was the Proclamation of 1763? Did not allow colonists to settle between the Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys.
What were the key philosophies of the Declaration of Independence based on? Ideas of English philosophers.
What are the four key ideas of the Declaration of Independence? People have certain unalienable rights, people establish government to protect those rights, goverments derives power from the people, and people have a right and duty to change a government that violates their rights.

Who was the British general who surrendered at Yorktown? Lord Cornwallis
Who championed the cause of independence, and also defended the soldiers of the Boston Massacre? John Adams
