Bill of Rights was added because writers thought all rights of people weren't protected in the Constitution. Our founding fathers wanted to make sure that the national government couldn't take away these amended rights like the British had done before.

Supreme Court is the highest court. This group interprets our laws and rules when or lower courts can't decide what should be right or wrong. They are located in the Supreme Court building away from the President and Congress. Judicial branch of our government.

Responsibility of the Executive Branch - is to see that laws are followed by citizens

Congress passes a law and the President vetoes it is an example of checks and balances
Our system of checks and balances provides that no one part of the government would have too much power.
Responsible citizens that vote should consider all candidates and how they will help the people they serve.
It's important to vote because a candidate only has to win by one "swing vote." You never know if that might be your vote!
Benjamin Franklin believed that the colonies should become an independent nation with a constitution.
Amendments are improvements to the Constitution. Amendments have to be ratified by the states.
Mrs. Gibbins went to the National Archives Building in Washington, D.C. last 9/11/2009 and learned that many of the documents like the Declaration of Independence, just like in the movie are moved underground and preserved because the paper is old and fragile, to protect them form damaging sunlight.
People are allowed to take pictures of all the documents like Bill of Rights withOUT using the flash on cameras because the light will damage the documents. Guards stand and make sure you don't!
