What happened to George when he was eleven? His father died.
Why did George visit his brother at Mount Vernon so often? His brother was like a second father to him.
When was George Washington born? George was born in 1732.
Where did George grow up? He grew up in Virginia not far from the Potomac River.
Why did Americans volunteer to help the British army? They were still part of the British colony and under King George.
What did George do after the French gave up in Ohio? George went back to Mount Vernon to be a farmer.
Why did many Americans want to be free of England? They could not pick their own leaders. They had to pay taxes and buy British goods.
When did Congress declare America's independence? After George's men defeated the British in Boston.
What did George do to help his men at Valley Forge? He divided the supplies and food equally.
Who helped the Americans win the battle at Yorktown? French ships kept the British from escaping by sea.
Why did George Washington wear a plain brown suit when he became president? He didn't want people to think he wanted to be a king.
Why were some Americans afraid of a strong central government? They didn't want their new government to be like the old one in England.
Why is George Washington called "The Father of our Country"? He was the first Commander in Chief and the first President.
