creole A person born in Spain's American colonies to Spanish parents; social class below the peninsulare.
viceroy The governer of a country who rules as a representative of the King or Queen.
mestizo In Spanish colonies, person of mixed Spanish and Indian background. People of mixed Spanish and Indian background; class below the creoles.
conquistador Spanish word for conquerer.
colony A group of people who move to a new land and are ruled by the government of their native land.
charter A legal document giving certain rights to a person or company.
missionaries A person who tries to spread certain religious beliefs among a group of people.
convert A person who changes religious beliefs.
