Constitutional Convention
| Term | Definition |

| term | a set period of time; length of time for holding office |
| Congress | the Legislative Branch of government; both the House of Representatives and the Senate make up this group |
| commerce | the buying and selling of goods; trade |
| Senate | the Upper House of Congress; each state has an equal number of representatives |
| representation | a system in which people elect representatives to pass their laws |
| Chief Justice | highest official (justice/judge) of the Supreme Court |
| electors | selected people from each state who choose the President |
| Justices | judges of the Supreme Court |
| federal government | national government; government that conducts the business of the nation |
| Supreme Court | the highest court in the United States |
| Executive Branch | branch of government that carries out the laws |
| impeach | to accuse a federal official of wrongdoing |
| Legislative Branch | branch of government that makes the laws |
| Chief Executive | highest official of the Executive Branch; the President |
| House of Representatives | Lower House of Congress; the number from each state is determined by population of the state |
| compromise | a settlement in which each side gives up part of what it wants |
| delegate | representative |
| Judicial Branch | branch of government that interprets (explains the meaning) of the laws |
| state government | government that conducts the business of the state |
