The War gave what to Britain? Also, what did Britain do to counter this? A big war debt, the British made taxes to generate income
What was the act that said that you can't settle past the Appalachian Mountains? The Proclamation Act
What did the colonists find most successful to rebel against British tax collectors? Boycotting
Who were the "terrorist group" of the colonies? And, what did they do to British tax collectors? The Sons of Liberty. The tarred and feathered them.
Why would English merchants want taxes reduced? Because the colonists won't buy their teas.
What Act did the colonists hate the most? What was passed shortly after? The Stamp Act. When the Stamp Act was revoked the British passed the Declaratory Act, which was even worse.
What did the Tea Act do to prices on Tea? How did the colonists feel about this? Lower them. The colonists felt that the Britain was manipulating the tea sales.
What did the Quebec Act do? It established a relationship with England, and Quebec. Colonists didn't like this because the Catholics got more decision making
Thomas Paine did what? He said that it's okay to bash the King. He also wrote the "Common Sense".
Who wrote the Declaration of Independence? Thomas Jefforson
What Country allied with the colonies? France.
After the battle of ____ the French believed we had a chance of beating the British Saratoga.
What were some of the advantages the British had during the war? More people, More Supplies, Better weapons, Better Generals.
What were some of the advantages the colonists had during the war? Home-front advantage, A Cause. They also used Gurilla Warfare.
Why did England lose the war? They were too cocky, overconfident, and they underestimated the colonists.
What phase was the last phase the British used? The Southern Phase
In the battle of Yorktown, who surrendered? General Cornwallis.
What side were the Native Americans on? Both. Some were on either sides.
What did the Treaty of Paris do to the colonies? Gave them the sense of Independence.
What is Primogenture? It's where the 1st son gets land.
After the Revolution, the colonies need to do what? Establish a government.
What is a virtuous republic? Where everyone works toward the common good.
What was the big difference between Britain's Constitution and America's? America's was written down.
What are some of the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation? Lack of central government, couldn't tax, no legislative branch.
Congress accomplished what through the Articles of Confederation? They organized the Land Ordinance, and the Northwest Ordinance.
Shay's Rebellion did what? Pretty much made the Continental Congress, there wasn't an army, so the Federalist's saw this as an opportunity.
Who were the Nationalists? The Federalists
Who were the Localists? The Anti-Federalists
What compromise delt with electing the president? The Electoral College.
Why was Washington the ideal Presidential candidate? The looked the part.
Who made the Bill of Rights the Federalists
Who was the 1st Chief Marshall? John Jay
What did Jefforson and Hamaliton have in common Their ideals on the Virtuous republic.
What side did the US take during conflicts nationwide? They wanted to stay neutral.
Who were Washington's problems? Jefforson/Hamiliton
What was the importance of Washington's farewell address? It said that the president should only have 2 terms, and that Washington didn't like political parties.
Who founded the navy? John Adams
What did the 12th Amendment do? Changed how we elect the President
*What did the Great Awakening do to America? *United it.
*What party was Ben Franklin apart of? *The Enlightenment
*The Navigation Acts established what? *Mercantilism
