| Nelson Mandela | he led the African national Congress. The government arrested him and he was put in jail for 27 years. He was freed by Frederik Willem de Klerk. |
| Sanctions | penalties, like refusing to buy products or boycotting |
| Frederik Willem de Klerk | He freed Nelson Mandela and ended Apartheid. He also let black Africans vote. |
| Genocide | a planned killing of an ethnic group :( |
