Gold Coast It is on the west coast of Africa. Its called the gold coast b/c of its rich supply of gold. It was a British Colony.
Cacao The seed used to make chocolate, Great Britten used it as their new source of wealth. Half of the worlds supply used to come from the Gold Coast.
Kwame Nkrumah He studied in the United States so he knew about freedom. He organized boycotts of the British goods and also lead strike. When the Gold Coast became free he became their leader.
Ghana The new name for the Gold Coast after they became free.
Jomo Kenyatta He freed Kenya (in East Africa) from British rule.
Suez Canal A canal hat goes through Egypt from the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.
Gamal Abdel Nasser He was an Egyption army officer who lead the rebels against the British
Cariro The capital of Egypt.
Algeria It is an important colony to the French b/c out of their 8 million people 1 million are from French descendents. It is considered part of the French Nation.
National Liberation Front (FLN) FLN is when the Algerians press their demands for freedom. They launched the war for their independance.
The Sahera It is the largest dry desert in the world.
The Sahel It means shore in Arabic. It is dry and dusty in some parts and green in others.
Savannas They are grassy tree dotted plains w/ lots of trees, animals, and rain.
Mount Kilimanjaro It is the highest mountain in Africa.
Basin Its a large dip which rivers flow from.
Great Rift Valley Its in the eastern part of Africa, and devides eastern Africa from the western portion. It has high cliffs, and rich soils that have been washed down into the valley. (this makes the lands good for farming.

Victoria Falls Waterfall that are in Zimbabwe. These rapids and waterfalls prevent ships from sailing far.

African national Congress the leading black African Political party. It is led by Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela he led the African national Congress. The government arrested him and he was put in jail for 27 years. He was freed by Frederik Willem de Klerk.
Sanctions penalties, like refusing to buy products or boycotting
Frederik Willem de Klerk He freed Nelson Mandela and ended Apartheid. He also let black Africans vote.
Genocide a planned killing of an ethnic group :(
