Explain how the Electoral College works. - A series of state elections, which ever candidate wins the majority in the state gets all the electors and which ever candidate goes the majority of the electors win the elections - The number of electors is based on number of representatives plus 2
2. What is a precedent? Give an example of a precedent set by George Washington A precedent is an action or decisions that later serves as an example. - Washington met with the cabinet heads and the president today still does that.
3. Describe Hamilton’s economic plan for the nation. -pay foreign dept and repay bonds as soon as possible(it would build confidence in the economy and look more stable) -pass higher tariffs, and gain revenue -promote manufacturing and business. -making a national bank and a national mint
4. Explain why Thomas Jefferson disagreed with most parts of Hamilton’s plan. -Hamilton’s plan cheated bond holders -Did not want to rely on manufacturing and business. He believed in famers more -lower tariffs to help farmers -national bank would give to much power to the federal government and was unconstitutional

7. What advice did George Washington give in his Farewell Address? Was this advice followed? -Remain neutral -Avoid dept -Avoid making political parties -Need for education The people did not listen to the advice; they did the opposite

9. What was the XYZ affair? France was attacking American ships because the US didn’t support them, plus they wanted money from us. -John Adams sent diplomats to France to negotiate -French agents demanded bribe before they negotiate -Americans refuses to pay
What happened as a result of the XYZ affair? -As a result, the U.S. created a permanent peacetime army and navy - the French stopped attacking ships
10. Why were the Alien and Sedition Acts put in place? If people looked like they were in the country illegally than the president could kick them out; also made people wait longer to be eligible to become citizen
who agreed with the alien and sedition acts and why The federalists thought it was good because they were in a time of crisis. Acts need to keep the country safe and stable
who DISagreeded with the aliean and sedition acts and why Democratic republican thought the acts were unconstitutional and that the federalists just wanted more power
11. What were the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions? Alien and sedition acts were unconstitutional -KY and VA would cancel theses laws in our state -States should be allowed to ignore federal laws that they think are unconstitutional
why did thomas jefferson think that hamiltons plan cheeted bond holders? the original bond holders had to sell the bonds to speculators and if you pay the bonds in full, the speculators will get it not the original bond holders.)
define loose construction People who favor loose construction think that the government can take reasonable actions that the constitution doesn’t specifically mention. (Unless the constitution says they can’t)
