World War I (WWI) global (world-wide) war fought from 1914 to 1918
Treaty of Versailles the official agreement between the countries that were fighting that ended World War I
Communism a type of government and economic system where the government or the whole community owns everything together
Great Depression a time of hard economic conditions -when many people in the US and the rest of the world had very little money.
Nazism a political movement led by Adolf Hitler in Germany that includes a dictatorship, extreme nationalism, and anti-Semitism
Prejudice to pre-judge someone without knowing them; disliking people unfairly before you know them
Propaganda spreading information that promotes a particular point of view or idea -messages that try to shape or change public opinion
The Holocaust the killing of Europe’s Jewish people (and other groups) by the Nazi’s during World War II
German Reunification the process of reuniting West Germany and East Germany into one country as Germany
Soviet Union United Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), a large union of formerly independent countries under communist control
Collapse of the Soviet Union when the Soviet Union fell apart and was separated into 15 independent countries
the Cold War when nations (mostly the US and the Soviet Union) competed for power or control without actually fighting with weapons
Judaism a religion of the Jewish people
Christianity a religion based on the life, death, and teachings of Jesus Christ - its followers are Christians
Islam a religion based on the teachings of Muhammad – its followers are Muslims
