What is the United States Constitution? The supreme law and sets up the frame work for the United States.
What is the Bill of RIghts? The First Ten Amendments, a formal list of civil liberties.
What does the term "Checks and Balances" mean? A system that allows each branch of a government to limit the powers of the other branches so no single branch becomes too powerful.
What is Federalism? A system of government where power is divided between a central national governement and indivdual states.
What is Loose Interpretation? A flexible envolving guide that grants federal government implied powers beyond what is literally written down in the Constitution.
What is Strict Interpretation? It limits government power strictly to the powers explicitly and clearly granted by the text of the constitution.
"We the People" is an example of? Popular Soverienty
The process by which the power is divided between the federal government and the state government is called what? Federalism
What are the three branches of government? The Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, and Judicial Branch
What is the Legislative Branch and what is it made up of? Its responsible for making and passing federal laws, made up of Senate and House of Representatives.
What is the Executive Branch and what is it made up of? Its responsible for carrying out and enforcing laws
What is the Judical Branch and what is it made up of? The system that interprets the laws, applies justice, and determines if its in law of the constitution.
What is the Bill of Rights and what does they do? Its the First 10 Amendments and it protect indivdual rights
Who makes the laws in the United States governemnt? The U.S Consitituion
What are the two parts of Congress? Senate and the House of Representatives
What is the main purpose of the United States Constitution? To set up a plan for the U.S government
What is Federalism and what is an example of Federalism? Its the divsion of power/ power given betweeen national government and state government. EX (National) Declaring War, EX (State) Running Public Schools
What is the First Amendment and what does it protect? The First Amendment protects the 5 basic natural rights: religion, speech, the press, assembly, the right to petition the government.
Summarize how a biill becomes a law? Idea, committee, floor vote, congress (2nd time), final agreement, executive action.
