What’s communism A political ideology created by Karl Max. It believes that the community and state should control resources and a classless society
Russian Revolution A major political shift in 1917 that lead to centuries of monarchy to end and the first communist state being born
Provisional government A temporary government that ruled between February to October 1917, later overthrown by the Bolshevik party
Bolshevik party (Later called communist party) a radical political party communist party led my Vladimir Lenin
Vladimir Lenin A radical Russian communist who was the leader of the Bolshevik party and later the soviet union
War communism A harsh economic and system where taking food peasants by force to feed soldiers in the red army and factory workers
Red terror A harsh campaign of torture and killings on peasants who didn’t want to support the government and anti Bolshevik groups
Cheka A secret police organisation to eliminate opposing parties and people who didn’t want the revolution led by Felix Dzerzhinsky
What happened in the civil war The Red army led by Bolsheviks fought the white army led by anti Bolsheviks groups from 1917 to 1922. It lead to the Red army controlling most of Russia, the execution of the Tsar family and 7-12 million deaths
What happened after the Bolsheviks took power The NEP was introduced, all Russian citizens had the same title , comrade,wealth and land was taken from the Orthodox Church.
What’s NEP An economic policy that allowed small businesses to be privately owned, stopped forced seizure of food. This lead to economic growth and decreased famines
Red army The main army of the Bolshevik party led by Leon Trotsky
How did the Bolshevik overthrow the provisional government A coup in November 1917
What led to the Russian revolution The devastating impacts of WW1, economic crisis, and people being tired of the Tsar monarchy lead to the Russian revolution
How did Russia leave ww1 The treaty of Brest litovsk between Soviet Union and the central powers of WW1
Who were stalins secret police The NKVD
Joseph Stalin Lenin’s successor after his death. He ruled Russia with even more propaganda and a cult personality.
Name and explain all five year plans First plan 1928 to 32 focused on heavy industry like coal , steel and electricity Second plan 1933 37 focused on heavy industry and more consumer goods Third plan 1938 41 focused on weapons and arms for World War Two
Collectivisation A policy where all agricultural land was taken into state ownership and divided. This lead to devastating famines like the holodomor
How did Stalin spread propaganda Using the Pravda a newspaper that glazed Stalin and criticised opposition
Great purge A period in soviet history where oppositions of Stalin were killed or sent to gulags. This lead to one million deaths
Show trials Pre determined trials for opposition where they were forced to confession through torture and humiliation. The purpose of these trials were propaganda
Soviet eternal calendar A calendar with 5 day work week, zero days off and aimed to elimate days of worship
What were the awards for youth groups based on ages Little Octoberist for children below nine,pioneers for children aged nine to fourteen and teenagers aged 14 to 18 can join the Komsomol
Status of women Women were encouraged to join the workforce and have many children to create a strong workforce. Women who had six or more children were rewarded 2,000 roubles from the government
