| Term | Definition |

| Agriculture | The practice of growing crops and raising animals to produce food and other products that help humans survive. |
| Ancestor | A person in your family who lived a long time ago, like a great-uncle or even further back. The people from whom you are descended. |
| Chronology | The order in which events happen over time. Placing something in chronological order means putting things in the order in which they occurred. |
| Conquest | When a group of people takes control of another group’s land using force, often through war or battle. |
| Culture | The unique ways groups of people live, including their traditions, beliefs, music, art, and ways of doing things. |
| Currency | Anything people use to trade or exchange for goods and services. It can be coins, paper money, or items like shells or beads in ancient times. |
| Customs | The ways of doing everyday things in a particular culture. |
| Diverse | Made up of different kinds of people, ideas, or things. A diverse community includes people with many backgrounds and cultures while a diverse environment might include forests, deserts, and rivers. |
| Divine | Having to do with gods or something sacred and holy. |
| Drought | A long period with little or no rain, which can make it hard for plants to grow and can lead to water shortages. |
| Economy | An economy is how people in a civilization use resources like money, labor, and goods to meet their needs and wants. |
| Elite | Small group of people who have more power, wealth, or influence than others. |
| Environment | Everything in a place makes up its environment, including the air, water, land, plants, animals, and resources. |
| Ethnicity | A group of people who share a common cultural background. |
| Export | To send goods or products from one civilization to another to be sold. |
