Diffusion The spread of ideas, products and cultural traits from one culture to another
Convergence cultures exchange ideas & become more similar
Divergence Cultures become less similar over time / When different cultural influences cause an area to divide into separate parts
Push Factor Factors that make people want/forced to leave an area
Pull Factor Factors that make people want to come to an area
Culture body of beliefs, customs, practices and behaviors that together constitute a group’s way of life
Taboo a restriction on a behavior
Material Culture The physical items that people create, use, and touch in a society
Non-Material Culture The intangible ideas and rules that shape how people live and think together
Cultural Complex when an artifact represents different values, beliefs, traditions
Cultural Hearth An area or place of origin where new ideas start (trends, developments, etc.)
Globalization People, ideas, goods spread throughout the world
Hinduism a religion that features reincarnation, dharma, and karma as part of its beliefs.
Judaism a religion that includes a belief in one God and that you must live according to the sacred Hebrew texts
Islam a religion that includes a belief that one's life must be lived in submission to God based on messages from the Prophet Muhammad
Christianity a religion that includes a belief in one God and on the life and teachings of Jesus (Son of God)
