Seven Names Of Explorers

QuestionAnswer
Leif Eriksson (c.1000) Norwegian explorer, son of Erik the Red, was the first European to explore the Americas.
Prince Henry the Navigator (1394-1460) King of Portugal who established a school of navigation and financed trips of exploration.
Bartolomeau Dias Portuguese navigator. Led an expedition from Portugal southward along the African coast.
Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) Italian explorer, he was convinced that he could reach Asia by sailing westward across the Atlantic Ocean. He commanded a small fleet that reached the so called New World.
Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521) Portuguese captain of a Spanish fleet that sought a western route to Asia via the Southern Ocean. He died during the exploration, but the rest of his crew circumnavigated that world.
Bartolomeau de las Casas The priest that traveled with Christopher Columbus. He wrote letters to the king and queen saying how poor they were treating the "indians".
Vasco De Gama An explorer who went on an expedition arond the Cape of Good Hope, ending in Calicut, India, and then coming back.
