Explorer's Names

Leif Eriksson (1000)Norwegian explorer, son of Erik the Red, was the first European to explore the Americas.
Prince Henry the Navigator (1394-1460) King of Portugal who established a school of navigation and financed trips of exploration.
Bartolomeu Dias (In 1448) Led an expedition from Portugal southward along the African coast.
Vasco de Gama Portuguese explorer. First to make the trip around the Cape of Good Hope and arrive in India in 1497.
Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) Italian explorer, he was convinced that he could reach Asia by sailing westward across the Atlantic Ocean. He reached the so called New World, setting of a tide of European exploration of the area.
Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521) Portuguese captain of a Spanish fleet that sought a western route to Asia, he found a passage through South America, now called the Strait of Magellan, but died during his expedition. Only 18 of his crew successfully circumnavigated the world.
