Geography Review

The following things will be included on your geography test.

TermDefinition
Absolute Location the exact spot where a place is on Earth
Relative Location the approximate location of a place
Physical Map a map that shows natural land features like mountains and rivers
Political Map a map that shows human made borders along with countries and cities
Compass Rose shows directions on a map
Cardinal Directions the four main directions on a map which are North East South and West
Intermediate or Ordinal Directions the directions in between the main ones like Northeast Northwest Southeast Southwest
Key/Legend a box on a map that explains what the symbols and colors mean
Modern Map a present day map that shows how places look right now
Historical Map a map that shows what a place looked like in the past
Continents the seven huge landmasses on Earth. Can you name them?
Oceans the five giant bodies of salt water that cover most of Earth. Can you name them?
North America the continent that includes Canada the United States and Mexico. Can you name the major geographical features of the United States that we studied?
