Colonizing

Joint Stock Company a company whose shareholders own stock in the company
Charter A written, grant establishing an institution and detailing members rights and privileges
Indentured Servants a person under contract to work , usually without pay, in exchange for free passage to the colonies
traitor a person who betrays his or her own people, nation,or cause
dissenters a person who strongly disagrees with official policy
separatists A person in the 16th century and 17th centuries whi wished to eave the church of England
Mayflower Compact A shipboard contract signed by Pilgrims in the Mayflower before they landed in North America, binding them to abide by their own laws and establish a civil society
Fundamental orders of Connecticut a founding document of the Conneticut colony that listed 11 laws and stood as the framework for governing the colony
Banished to send away as punishment, usually without hope of return
Levied to require the payment of a tax
Self Governance the control of ones own affairs: the control of community affairs and laws by those who live ther rather than by an outside ruler or monarch.
King Phillips War a violent conflict netween Native Americans and English Colonists from New England, who were aided by Native American allies.
Doctrine a principle or set of beliefs accepted by a group
Alliances an agreement betwen nations to fight each other enemies or otherwise collaborate; a partnership
Confederacy an agreement among several groups, states, or governments to protect and support one another in battle or other endeavors
Neutrality the refusal to take sides or become involved
Proprietor a person with ownership of a colony, including the right to manage and distribute land and to establish government
tributaries a creek, stream, or river that flows into a larger river or other body of water
royal colonies a colony ruled by a monarch through an appointed governor
Natural Resources a material or substance found in nature that can be used to sustain a society or exploited for economic gain, such as minerals, water, living things
raw materials the basic substances and elements used to make products.
