| Militia | a force made up of civilians trained as soldiers but not part of the regular army |
| Alliance | An agreement between countries to help each other against other countries |
| Guerrilla warfare | Irregular combat where small groups use hit-and-run tactics and ambushes to fight larger, more traditional forces |
| Cede | To give up or surrender control of something such as land |
| Parliament | A part of the British government that makes laws |
| Duty | A tax on imports |
| Quarter | To house or provide living accommodations for someone |
| Boycott | An organized campaign to refuse to buy certain goods |
| Petition | A written request to a government |
| Monopoly | Total control of a market for a certain product |
| Repeal | An official end or removing of a law that was in place |
| Minutemen | Citizen soldiers who could be ready to fight within a minute’s notice |
