World War II Terms and Leaders

Pearl Harbor The surprise attack on the American naval base in Hawaii on December 7, 1941.
Blitzkrieg A fast-moving military strategy, meaning "lightning war" used by German forces
Axis The alliance formed between Germany, Italy and Japan during World War II
Adolf Hitler The dictator of Germany who started World War II by invading nearby countries
Benito Mussolini The leader of Italy who allied with Germany during World War II
Appeasement The policy of giving in to aggressive demands in hopes of avoiding war
Hideki Tojo Japanese military leader who became an important wartime prime minister during WWII
Lend-Lease Act President Roosevelt created this to support countries fighting Germany by allowing the US to send war supplies to Allied nations.
Neville Chamberlain The British Prime Minister who believed that allowing Hitler to take some territory would prevent another major war.
Infamy President Roosevelt said December 7, 1941 would be a "date which will live in" this
