Tribe A group of people sharing common ancestry, culture, and language
Nation A group of Native Americans united by common language and culture
Reservation Land set aside by the government for Native Americans to live on
Territory An area of land that a tribe controls or occupies
Confederacy A union of tribes or groups joined together for a common purpose
Iroquois Confederacy An alliance of six Native American nations (also called the Haudenosaunee)
Cherokee Nation The largest tribe east of the Mississippi River
Apache A nomadic tribe known for hunting and warrior skills
Seminole A tribe that formed in Florida from mixed groups of Native Americans
Nomadic Moving from place to place; not settling in one location
Settlement A place where people establish a community to live
Dwelling A building where people live; a home
Longhouse A large communal home used by the Iroquois
Wickiup A dome shaped dwelling used by the Apache
Teepee A cone shaped tent used by nomadic tribes for shelter
Harvest The Gathering of crops or food
Corn A staple grain crop grown by many Native American tribes
Tobacco A plant grown and used ceremony by many tribes
Ceremony A formal ritual or celebration with special significance

Oral History Stories and information passed down by word of mouth
Legend A traditional story about a person place or event

Conflict A disagreement or battle between groups
Removal Act A law forcing Native Americans to relocate (like the Trail of Tears)

Treaty A formal agreement between nations or groups
