Relative Clauses

What are relative clauses? Phrases that add more detail to a sentence because they start with a relative pronoun.
TRUE OR FALSE: Relative clauses are ESSENTIAL to a sentence. False.
What are comma phrases? Phrases that are set off by a pair of commas.
TRUE OR FALSE: Relative clauses ALWAYS require commas. False - some do, some don't.
TRUE OR FALSE: It is impossible to make a relative clause a sentence by itself. True.
"Bathed in balsamic and dressed in basil, ripe tomatoes and soft mozzarella bask in the light of the lamp that is never turned off." Which part of this sentence can be taken out? "Bathed in balsamic and dressed in basil," "that is never turned off."
"Jack's grandfather suffered from polio, a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease." Which part of this sentence can be removed? "a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease."
"She tiptoed through the cubicle, examining the dusty wooden chair, and made her way past her boss, who was on the phone with a contractor." Which part of this sentence can be removed? "examining the dusty wooden chair," "who was on the phone with a contractor."
