ETHNIC GROUP A group of people who share a common culture and ancestry.
GLOBALIZATION The process in which countries are increasingly linked to each other.
INTERDEPENDENCE The reliance of one country on the resources, goods, or services of another country.
TEMPERATE ZONE Includes climates like, Mediterranean, humid subtropical and marine west coast.
GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT The total value of all the goods and services produced in a country in one year.
INFRASTRUCTURE The set of resources, like roads and factories, that a country needs to support economic activities.
HUMAN RESOURCES The people who make up the workforce of an organization, business sector, or economy.
CONSUMER A person who buys goods or services.
APARTHEID South Africa’s governmental policy of separation of the races.
COMMONWEALTH A self-governing territory associated with another country.
EMPIRE A land with different territories and people under a single ruler.
IMPERIALISM An attempt to dominate a country’s government, trade, and culture.
PARLIAMENTARY MONARCHY A type of government is ruled by a queen, but all laws are passed and enforced by an elected parliament.
INITIATIVE A petition process by which voters can put a proposed constitutional amendment on the ballot.
8-FOLD PATH The set of rules that Buddhists are prescribed to follow.
THE MIDDLE WAY Buddha taught that this is the best way for Buddhists to live their lives.
VEDAS The holy text of the Hindus.
NIRVANA Buddha taught that a person could escape suffering and reach this peaceful state.
MUHAMMAD The final prophet of Islam.
GANDHI The Hindu who led the Indian Independence movement with his philosophy of nonviolent resistance.
