John Locke Natural rights to life, liberty, property, social contract (people choose government slightly less freedom for structure and safety and rights if gov sucks they are fired), right to revolution.
Montesquieu Separation of powers (gov is separated into three main groups so that not one person (s) can have complete power over a nation, checks and balances (same thing as separation of powers), opposition to absolute monarchy.
