Vocabulary (Cog Words) for Term 1 Standards

SSP Primary source Original materials from a specific time period, like diaries, letters, photographs, or firsthand accounts
SSP Secondary source Information created later about historical events, like textbooks or articles that analyze original sources
SSP Artifact A human-made object from the past that helps us understand history and culture
SSP Social/society How people live, work, and interact with each other in communities
SSP Geographic/geography The study of Earth's features, climates, populations, maps, and how humans interact with their environment
SSP Political/politics Activities related to governing and making decisions that affect groups of people
SSP Economic/economy How people produce, distribute, and use resources, goods, and services including money
8.01 Colony A territory controlled by another country
8.02 Compact A formal agreement between people or groups
8.05 Diverse/diversity Having different types of people, ideas, or things within a group
8.06 Tolerant/tolerance Accepting and respecting differences in others
