| Hegemon | powerful leader in charge of an entire alliance of different city-states especially in regard to war and peace |
| Macedonian Phalanx | A form of Greek warfare where infantry men carried 13ft. spears, perfected by Philip II and used as a core in Alexander the Great's army. |
| Hellenism | The historical spread of ancient Greek culture, language, and thought to non-Greek peoples. |
| Macedonia | An ancient kingdom north of Greece, whose ruler Philip II conquered Greece in 338 B.C. |
| Philip II | king of ancient Macedonia and father of Alexander the Great (382-336 BC) |
| Alexander the Great | Between 334 and 323 B.C.E. he conquered the Persian Empire, reached the Indus Valley, founded many Greek-style cities, and spread Greek culture across the Middle East. |
| League of Corinth | Organization of Greek city-states (except Sparta!) led by the king of Macedonia for the purpose of attacking Persia |
| Synedrion | The governing council of the League of Corinth, made up of representatives from various Greek city-states. Its job was to keep the peace between members and settle legal argument |
