| Great Depression | In 1929, the economy got very bad, and many people didn’t have enough money. (Businesses closed, people lost their homes, people lost their jobs) |
| unemployment | people who want a job but can't find one. |
| stock market | is a place where people buy and sell parts of companies (called stocks). |
| credit | being able to borrow money now and pay it back later. |
| tariff | a tax on goods from other countries. |
| Dust Bowl | the time during the Great Depression when huge dust storms ruined farms in the middle of the United States. |
| Stock | A tiny piece of a company. When you buy a stock you own a small part of a company. |
| test | a trial that shows how strong someone is in a difficult situation. |
| expand | to make something bigger or to try and increase it. |
| consumer | a person who buys or uses goods and services. |
