Committee of Public Safety created during French Revolution to defend the nation against foreign and domestic enemies, and oversee the government
Bourgeoisie A term used in France to identify the middle class
Suffrage The right to vote
Decree A formal order having the force of law
Guillotine A device designed to cut the head off a person
Despotism A system of government in which the ruler has absolute or unlimited power
Exile Forced or voluntary absence from one’s country or homeland
