Confederate States of America formation of the states that seceded from the Union in 1861
Jefferson Davis is primarily remembered as the first and only President of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War (1861–1865). He led the South's secessionist efforts, defending slavery and states' rights
Alexander Stephens was an American politician who served as the only vice president of the Confederate States.
Fort Sumter Federal fort in Charleston Harbor, SC, which was fired upon on March 4, 1861, by Confederate forces when Lincoln attempted to resupply it, which led to the outbreak of the Civil War
border states slave states that did not secede from the Union, including Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia
