explain the reconstruction of Virginia following the Civil War 4th Grade SOL 4.8

What was included in the 13th amendment? abolished slavery in the United States.
What was included in the 14th amendment? gave citizenship to any person born in the United States.
What was included in the 15th amendment? forbade any state from denying the vote to anyone on the basis of race, color or previous condition of servitude (enslavement).
What were the Jim Crow Laws? series of laws passed throughout the South in the wake of emancipation that limited the growth and progression of free African Americans.
What were the Black Codes? practices and laws put into place to discriminate against African Americans
What was the Freedman's Bureau? established to provide food, medical care, and education to freed African Americans after the Civil War. Following the war, Freedmen’s Schools were established and both African American adults and children attended.
What was the outcome of Plessy Vs. Ferguson? legally established segregation, or separation of the races, and reinforced prejudices held among some individuals and groups.
