The Great Depression

What's GDP? Gross Domestic Product.
What are some causes of the Great Depression? The stock market, bank failures, the American Economic Policy, Droughts, farming, the Federal Reserve Policy, business, and inequality of wealth income.
By the end of the 1920s what percent of cars and radios were bought on installment plans? 60%of cars and 80% of radios.
What's a Hooverville? Shanty towns made of scraps and packing crates by homeless people.
What percent of Americans were out of work? 25% were out of work (In some cities it was 70%).
How many African Americans were unemployed? Around 50% were.
When was FDR elected? He was elected in 1932.
What was FDR's slogan? His slogan was "do something."
What did FDR assemble a group of experts called the Brain Trust for? He assembled it because he promised America a New Deal.
What did FDR do as an effort to curb the depression? He had congress pass many programs.
What did the AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Act) in 1933 do? It protected farmers from price drops by providing crop subsidies (still in place today).
What did the CWA (Civil Works Administration) in 1933 do? It provided public works jobs a $15/week to four million workers in 1934.
What did the FERA (Federal Emergency Relief Act) in 1933 do? It distributed millions of dollars of direct aid to unemployed workers.
What did the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in 1933 do? It sent 250,000 young men to work camps to perform reforestation and conservation tasks. It also removed surplus of workers from cities, provided healthy conditions for boys, and provided money for families.
What did the Glass-Steagall Act do? It limited risk repeated by Congress and led to the crash of 2008.
What did the PWA (Public Works Administration) do? It help made $3.3 billion for public works projects.
