In the 20s what did you do people become exposed to? Jazz, new dances, and silent movies.
What made people question long held beliefs? New theories and science discoveries.
What did everyone not welcome with modernization? The changes.
What did Atlanta establish itself as in the South? It establishes itself as the center of transportation for railroads and trucking.
What did General Motors and Ford offer customers? installment plans (credit) for their purchase.
What did installment plans allow consumers to make? It allowed them to make regular payments for cars over a period of time (Debt).
What did William Hartsfield an elected city councilman establish and when? He established an airport in the 1920s.
What were flappers? Women who were seen as wild.
What were flappers seen as wild for? Wearing excessive makeup, drinking, treating sex as a causality, drinking, smoking, driving automobiles, and flaunting conventional social and sexual norms.
What did prohibition cause? It caused great corruption in law enforcement.
What did great corruption in law enforcement encourage? It encouraged many Americans to ignore the law.
What's a speakeasy? An illegal bar.
What did radio in Georgia first begin with? WSB, AM750, in Atlanta.
When did the radio in Georgia first air? It first aired in 1922.
What did other stations do soon after. Soon after they followed.
What did cars allow young people to do? It allowed young people to date without a chaperone.
What grew in the African American community and soon the entire country? Jazz music and the blues.
Where did most black Americans live in the 1910s? Most lived on farms.
After WW1 where did black Americans moved to? Most black Americans moved to the North.
After WW1 what grew in the North? The KKK grew in the North.
What's Xenophobia? The fear of people from other countries.
What brought back the KKK? The migration of African Americans and the influx of immigrants from eastern and southern Europe.
What people were added to the hated groups? Jews and Catholics.
What happened to the KKK in 1920? The KKK got HUGE.
What happened to wages? They increased steadily.
Why did credit use increase? It increased because of the large increase in consumer goods available.
What did the use of credit also increase? It also increased debt.
What national retail stores began? A & P, Woodsworths, and Sears.
What became a widespread in the stock market? Investing did.
What happened to cotton prices? They fell throughout the 20s.
What happened to farm income when the boll weevil came to Georgia? Farm income began falling even more.
