What led to the Revolutionary War?

Who won the French and Indian War? England/the British/Great Britain
France and Great Britain fought to control which region in North America? The Ohio River Valley
Why did King George III and Parliament start taxing the American colonists? Great Britain was in debt from the French and Indian War
What was the Proclamation of 1763? it forbid the colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains because King George III did not want to continue fighting with the Native Americans
What did the Stamp Act of 1765 create a tax on? paper; all printed materials (newspapers, playing cards, official documents, etc. had to be printed on stamped paper that had been taxed)
Why did the colonists believe that they should not be required to pay taxes? they had no representation (no vote) in Parliament
Which Act required colonists to house and feed British soldiers? the Quartering Act
On March 5, 1770, protestors were yelling and throwing things at British soldiers. The soldiers got scared and fired into the crowd. What did this event become known as and how many people died? the Boston Massacre; 5 colonists died (the first to die was Crispus Attucks)
The Tea Act in 1773 gave one British company the right to control all tea trades with the colonists and colonists had to pay a tax on the tea. What was the name of the company? The East India Tea Company
How did the Sons of Liberty disguise themselves during the Boston Tea Party in 1773? they dressed like Native Americans
What did Parliament pass to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party? the Intolerable Acts (also known as the Coercive Acts)
How did the Intolerable Acts hurt the colonists? no ships were allowed in or out of Boston Harbor for trade until the colonists paid for all of the tea that had been ruined

The second section of the Declaration of Independence discusses "unalienable rights." What does this mean? rights that cannot be taken away (basic human rights - life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness)
The third section of the Declaration of Independence lists grievances against King George III's tyrannical rule . What does "grievance" mean? complaints
