What role did taxes play in the American Revolution? they were upset because they were tax and there was no representation
Why did the British start taxing the colonists? to pay off war debt (French and Indian war)
Tea Act A tax on any imported tea that did not come directly from British Merchants.
What was the Boston Tea Party? In response to the Tea Act, the Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans to disguise themselves, and dumped 1 million dollars worth of tea into Boston Harbor.
What is the battle of Concord & Lexington? on April 19th more than 700 British troops reached Lexington to find 70 militiamen waiting for them. Neither side wanting to engage in battle. A shot was heard, starting the fighting and marking the beginning of the American Revolutionary war.
What is the battle of Yorktown? Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington as French and American forces trapped the British at Yorktown. The British surrender at the Battle of Yorktown ended the American Revolutionary War.
What was the purpose of the Proclamation of 1763 written by the British for their American colonies? To prevent conflicts between colonists and Native Americans by outlawing settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains.
What answer best explains why American colonists were angry about the Proclamation of 1763? colonists were angry about the Proclamation of 1763? It banned them from settling in the Ohio River Valley, which they believed was their right after helping to win the French and Indian War.
What was a Patriot? Someone who supported Independence from Great Britain
What was a Loyalist? Someone who remained Loyal to King George III and the British Crown.
Sugar Act Tax on any sugar product that did not come directly from British merchants
Quartering Act required colonists to allow soldiers to stay in their homes (had to pay to house them)
What was the Boston Massacre? After being harassed by a crowd of American colonists, British soldiers fired their weapons, killing five colonists. Patriots used the event as propaganda to turn public opinion against British rule.
What did "no taxation without representation" mean? Colonists believed that the taxes placed on them were illegal and unfair because they were not given representation on British parliament, giving them no political voice.
What is the battle of Saratoga? This battle is marked as a turning point in the American revolutionary war, where the British suffered heavy casualties and resulted in France deciding to help the Americans and form an Alliance.
Stamp Tax A tax on all paper and other goods like newspapers, pamphlets, playing cards, dice, etc...
