Where in the world was Mesopotamia located(continent)? Mesopotamia was located on the continent of Asia.
What modern countries can be found where Mesopotamia was once located? Mesopotamia was mainly in Iraq, but parts of it also stretched into Syria, Turkey.
Describe the Geography of Mesopotamia? Mesopotamia was a flat, fertile plain between two major rivers—the Tigris and Euphrates. The land was good for farming but had little rainfall, so people relied on irrigation. The region also had hot, dry summers and occasional flooding.
What is the Fertile Crescent? The Fertile Crescent is a curved region in the Middle East known for its rich soil and early civilizations.
What two bodies of water go through the Fertile Crescent? The Tigris and Euphrates River
What do the two rivers leave on the land to help crops grow? The rivers left behind silt, a nutrient-rich soil that made the land fertile for farming.
Explain the importance of the rivers to the development of society in Mesopotamia? The rivers provided water for crops, transportation, and trade routes. They also supported the growth of cities and allowed people to settle in one place, leading to the rise of civilization.
What forms of irrigation were used in Mesopotamia? Mesopotamians built canals, dikes, and reservoirs to control river water and bring it to their fields.
What was a ziggurat? A ziggurat was a large, pyramid-shaped temple built to honor the gods. It was the center of city life and religion.
What is a merchant? A merchant is a person who buys and sells goods for a living, often trading with other cities or regions.
What is a division of labor(specialization)? Division of labor means people perform different jobs based on their skills—such as farming, building, trading, or crafting—so society can work more efficiently.
Where was Hammurabi king and what is he known for? Hammurabi was the king of Babylon, and he is known for creating the Code of Hammurabi, one of the world’s first written sets of laws.
What is Cuneiform? Cuneiform was the first system of writing, developed by the Sumerians. It used wedge-shaped marks pressed into clay tablets.
Describe some irrigation systems from Mesopotamia? Mesopotamians used canals to move water from rivers to fields, levees to prevent flooding, and basins to store water for dry seasons.
What was a King's Role/Job? Kings were the highest rulers in Mesopotamian society. They were believed to be chosen by the gods to lead and protect their people. Kings made laws, led armies in war, collected taxes, and oversaw large building projects like temples and city walls.
what was a Priest's Job/Role? Priests performed religious rituals and communicated with the gods.
What was Government official’s Job/Role? Government officials helped the king run the city-state. They collected taxes, enforced laws, managed trade, and organized building projects. High-ranking officials often came from wealthy families and lived comfortably

What is a Women's Job/Role? Women in Mesopotamia could own property, run businesses, and work as merchants or priestesses. However, most women managed households and raised children. Their rights depended on their social class.
